If you haven’t met Connie, she’s a spirited and curious little girl who adores everything about construction sites. With her hard hat on and toy tool belt secured, she embarks on a thrilling adventure through a world of fantastic machines, bricks, and all things construction-related. For this delightful
book, I wrote “Hammers and Nails” with the intention to capture the excitement and wonder that children experience when surrounded by the world of construction. It’s a joyful, upbeat anthem that will have little ones tapping their feet and singing along in no time,” she said.

Oriel Selver launched her first children’s book, ‘Connie Loves Construction’ during an official launch and book signing event held on Saturday February 4th, 2023 at Grace Bay Market Place, Providenciales. With this new book, she hopes to encourage young women/ women to gain interest in the construction industry.

Selver, who is a member of the National Association for Women in Construction Atlanta Chapter, said she came up with the idea to write this song after traveling to many different cities promoting her children’s book “Connie Loves Construction”, and seeing the excitement of the children and even their teachers she felt like something was missing. “‘Hammers and Nails’, is a captivating song that is extremely catchy. This tune brings her construction adventures to life and is sure to have you tapping your feet to the beat! I know that music is a universal language that breaks down those walls and brings people together. Its ability to evoke raw emotions, promote cultural understanding, and foster communal connections is nothing short of magical. This song celebrates the incredible work that construction workers
do every day, and it’s my hope that the combination of the book and the song will inspire children to be curious about the world around them, embrace their imagination, and perhaps even consider a future career in construction.

I had an absolute blast composing “Hammers and Nails,” she explained to The SUN She continued: “Connie Love’s
Construction”, my first children’s book has been making its way around the world since releasing it this past November. I have been to several schools from Ianthe
Pratt primary school to Strathmore Elementary School in Maryland sharing my journey into construction and it’s
been so rewarding. I am excited for the opportunity to have my book available to hundreds of thousands readers as it is on the shelves of the Fulton County libraries.” Selver explained that she wanted to create a story that celebrates the determination and passion of children,
adding that she believes that every child can grow into their dreams when given the right support and encouragement. She further stated that this book is her tribute to the young builders, engineers, and dreamers out there. She added: “This heartwarming tale follows the journey of a young girl named Connie, who discovers her passion for construction at the age of 10. With the unwavering support of her family, she embarks on a path that eventually leads her to become a successful construction manager. As a diverse and empowering
story, it fosters a message of perseverance that inspires young readers to pursue their passions with tenacity.

With vivid illustrations and an engaging storyline,
the book entertains and educates, opening up a world of possibilities for children of all ages and backgrounds. The book is also available in Spanish “Connie Ama La
Construcción” Selver said she believes that supporting women in construction on an international scale is a significant step towards achieving gender equality and
fostering a more inclusive society. “By breaking down barriers, developing equitable opportunities, and promoting diversity, we can unleash the immense potential of talented women who have long been underrepresented in the industry. Together, let us work towards a construction sector that harnesses the
power and ingenuity of both genders, leading us into a brighter, more equitable future. By promoting and supporting women in construction, we can tap into an
often-overlooked talent pool. Encouraging young girls and women to pursue careers in construction can diversify and enrich the industry with fresh perspectives, skills, and innovative ideas. Increased representation
fosters a collaborative environment that benefits all stakeholders involved,” she said.

Selver, who has seven years experience in the construction industry, said her biggest inspiration for getting into construction was her father. In the book, Connie is a 10-year-old girl who loves building and dreams of being a construction worker, but her
friends don’t understand. Connie and her friends went to the hardware store to learn about tools and building things. When they leave, the children see a real construction crew with all their trucks and equipment. A
female construction worker offers Connie a measuring tape. The story ends with Connie using that same measuring tape on her construction sites as an adult.
Selver & CO, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a professional consultancy specializing in providing
detailed construction cost estimates. They were founded in 2018 by Oriel Selver, a construction manager to bring accuracy and efficiency to a growing need for lower construction costs. Since then, the firm has delivered 13 successful commercial construction projects throughout the United States.
